It's always exciting when your family grows – especially when that new member is furry and full of fun (and we don't mean your new brother-in-law). Celebrate your new dog, cat, puppy or kitten by throwing a shower! Here are a few ideas for pulling it together.

1. Send an Announcement – A little announcement card with a photo of your precious poochie would brighten anyone's day. It also lets people know why you've been so busy lately. Tell them you're having a shower and give them the details of the event.
2. Order a Cake – What a great reason to eat cake! Lots of places will happily decorate it with your pet's picture. Don't forget a special dog cake for your furry guest of honor. If a few pet pals join the party, they can have a piece too.
3. Register Your Gift Preferences – More and more stores have computerized gift registries from online pet boutiques to one of the major pet retailers. You can set up an account with one of them, or if you'd prefer, direct those who inquire about gifts to consider a donation to your favorite pet charity.
4. Plan Some Games – Dog breed bingo? Pin the Tail on the Puppy. How about Dog Monopoly – yes, they make that one too!
5. Thank You Cards – Make sure you show your appreciation with a pet-themed thank you card with a personal message from you.
